Katya Robin

Hello!

Tempting
Ink on Paper, 1994. Coloured Digitally, 2025

🎨 I’m Katya Robin, a reportage artist making mixed-media  paintings and drawings. My work portrays ordinary moments of daily existence — monotonous domestic labour and non-places like parking bays.

Working instinctively, I use a summary line and painterly gesture to describe the isolation and detachment characteristic of contemporary life.

I watch out for telling fleeting moments, the glimpses that are generally overlooked, but on reflection are poignant expressions of the fabric of daily life. Working within brief  windows of opportunity, I catch quick sketches that accumulate into series, blending observation, journal, memory, and cultural motifs.

My work also revisits allegorical classical themes, including petit genre and nature morte, drawing objects associated with the routines and rituals of modern life. Through this process, I bridge historical symbolism with contemporary concerns such as navigating visibility and claiming space.
